Great Southern Land

The Australian idiom is explored in this dynamic presentation of poetry and song. The performance takes a historical journey that moves from the transportation era to present-day Australia, showcasing culturally diverse and linguistically exciting Australian voices.

Poems easily lend themselves to a range of classroom exercises; forms include ballads, free and comic verse, spoken word and rap. Storytelling, the investigation of rhyme, rhythm and a broad range of poetic devices underpins the performance.

All performances are followed by a Q&A with the actors. Company members have broad knowledge of poetry and storytelling and can lead discussion on style and content.

Duration: 60 minutes, followed by a Q&A session. A 90 minute session recommended

Lovely modelling of how poetry should be performed and can take so many different forms. I believe that seeing shows like this helps foster a love of language in all my students.
